During the night of 16th of March 1978, the
super tanker AMOCO CADIZ ran aground off the North Brittany coast, a few
miles from the little fishing port of Portsall. 220 000 tons of oil gushed
from the broken tanker into the sea. It was the biggest oil-spill of the
century and it happened twenty years ago.
This documentary reviews the lessons drawn from the Amoco Cadiz disaster
and from subsequent oil spills.
In 52 minutes, "AMOCO CADIZ - 20 YEARS LATER" answers the questions: what
progress has been made in the fight against sea pollution since 1978?
What would be the procedure in the case of an oil-spill today? What advances
have been made in marine biology, chemistry and technology during the
last two decades?
