Film critics have the habit of dismissing post-war West German cinema as mediocre and bogged down in conventions, thus showing a real disregard for certain so-called minor films be they exotic, fantastic, "krimi"(German dectective films), western or dramatic, so many categories that flourished in the 50s and 60s.
EXOTICISM, PUNCH UPS & SUSPENDER BELTS pays homage to these films through a portrait of Wolfgang C. Hartwig an important producer in those years who, from 1953 on, made around fifty films which offer a striking example of a certain West German cinema, previously undervalued.
