At 7 818 meters, the Nanda Devi is the highest
and the most beautiful mountain in the Indian Himalayas. This mountain
is the incarnation of the Goddess Nanda, protector of shepherds and guardian
of the mountain.
Every twelve years, the most dangerous pilgrimage in the world, the "Bari
Nanda Jet", winds its way up across rugged mountain slopes to Lake Rupkund
at an altitude of more than five thousand meters in the Indian Himalayas.
It is a pilgrimage of shepherds who risk their lives to see the reflection
of the summit of Nanda Devi in Lake Rupkund.
